Edward Tufte said it:  Power Corrupts, and PowerPoint Corrupts Absolutely.  PowerPoint, Tufte said, is “evil”. 

Now, PowerPoint is being married to that other allegedly corrupting influence, the BlackBerry.  Introducing Impatica ShowMate, the presentation solution that allows you to project a PowerPoint directly from your BlackBerry.

Impatica promises you will “engage your audience with the same dynamic presentations once only possible from your computer”.  (I’m trying to remember the last “dynamic” PowerPoint presentation I’ve seen.  Substitute “sleep-inducing” for “dynamic”, O.K.?)

 The cute little ShowMate box (weighs 255 grams) can be wired or Bluetoothed to your BlackBerry, then ShowMate connects to the usual boardroom projector.  Just open an emailed PowerPoint attachment on your BlackBerry and you’re good to go.  The BlackBerry itself becomes the remote control, and all the usual PowerPoint animation and transition effects are supported.  The ShowMate is the proverbial “black box”, with no controls or switches whatsoever.  Just plug it in to your BlackBerry’s power charger.
