Sorry, I’m Going To Wait For The 80″ Version

There have been rumblings about the new Sony 1080p Grand WEGAs and as of today they’re official:Â Five new models, including the 70-inch KDS-R70XBR2 (pictured at left) and 60-inch KDS-R60XBR2 are on the way.
Sorry, not available yet - Sony says they’ll ship in “early fall”. This is Sony’s way of keeping you from buying someone else’s humongous-screen rear projection TV until Sony’s new ones come out.
If you can wait, you’ll benefit from “the refinements of Sony’s three 0.61-inch SXRD chips (one each for red, green and blue color reproduction), delivering more than 2 million native pixels (1920 x 1080) for a full high definition picture.”
Sony’s also promising a 10,000:1 contrast ratio and other high end
goo-gahs including CableCARD, dual 1080p HDMI inputs, front HDMI HDV camcorder connection and more.Â
Sony’s also out with the details on its new SXRD A2000 sets which will ship this summer, in 60-, 55- and 50-inch models.Â
Prices range from $7,800 for the top-of-the-line 70-inch SXRD XBR set to $3,500 for the 50-inch.Â
If you’d rather “think small” Sony’s also tantalizing us with details on its new BRAVIA LCDs (sample pictured at right), again including models with full 1080p capability. All this, PLUS a new A/V receiver (Model STR-DG1000) with 1080p pass-through designed to capitalize on new hi-def Blu-ray Disc player technology which will run the tab on your home theater system even higher.
Again, none of this new Sony stuff is in the stores yet. All you can do is drool over it at www.sony.com/2006TV.Â
