Music To Your Ears, Noises Out

Bose has made hundreds of thousands of fans (and a lot of money) with its noise cancelling headphones. They’re pricey ($300 - $350).  Competitors like the Plane Quiet promise a comparable experience at a lower price point (around $80). But this active noise-cancelling technology comes in a bulky, outside-the-ear package. And for many portable music listeners, bulk matters.
Now Jays says its Swedish design promises 90% ambient noise reduction in an in-the-ear phone, with the side benefit of less ear fatigue and less battery drain on your player (because you don’t have to turn the volume up so high).  The technology behind this:  they simply fit more snugly into your ear. Your ears are so isolated that the instruction manual suggests opening your jaw while putting them on.Â
Jays hopes to be selling a quarter million of these every year within the next three years. They promise availability later this summer; they’re taking pre-orders at around $80 with a 2-year warranty.
