Supersize Comes To Panasonic Plasma TVs
Published by John July 10th, 2006 in TV
Late last month LG claimed bragging rights on the world’s largest commercially available plasma TV. But it won’t be for long.
Matsushita, parent company of the Panasonic brand, has announced that the 103-inch plasma screen will be available at retail by the end of the year. They teased us with this set at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show - a set one inch bigger than a Samsung prototype. A screen the size of a double mattress.
This really is more about bragging rights than putting out a product consumers will snap up. Screens this size would be more likely to end up in the sports book section of a Vegas casino, or as an electronic billboard.
Which is just as well - we’re scared to think what a set this size will cost. The aforementioned LG 71-inch is showing up on websites for just north of $42,000. The biggest currently available Panasonic (65-inch) plasma can be had for a relatively cheap $7,600. Plus $400 ground shipping charges.
My question: How big of a clicker do you get to hold in your hand to control this 103-inch monster?
