I don’t know if you’re a fan of those Anime robots but I’d sure like to have one of these. The Japanese are not only fond of creating robot cartoons but they’re actually doing lots of research and development in the Robotics field.

This one, dubbed as HRP-2m Chromet (’Chromet’ for short) is about 35cm high, weights 1.5kg and has 20 degrees of freedom. Here’s more…it runs on Linux. To be more specific, ARTlinux.

It was designed to be small and inexpensive as it only uses the same kind of servo motors used by hobbyists.
