Lego’s New Plan For World Domination
Published by John July 29th, 2006 in Robotics, Toys
How does a company with a product like Lego building blocks win over the 21st century Xbox/PlayStation generation? Lego’s taking a stab at it with its new Mindstorm NXT robots. (A do-it-yourself version of bots such as Robosapien).
Lego’s robot line was introduced eight years ago, but it hasn’t exactly been promoted or supported. So Lego went to a handful of its biggest robot fans - sort of an uber focus group of hackers - to help it refine and reinvent the concept.
The result is to be rolled out on Tuesday, at a price of $249. The idea is for hobbyists to create custom robots in a matter of a few hours that can do, well, whatever you might imagine. But will kids who are used to the instant gratification of a video game or YouTube be willing to spend a few hours creating something?
