Higher Than High Definition: Presenting Ultra High Definition
Published by John September 15th, 2006 in Others, TV
We high-definition TV freaks know that HDTV has six times the resolution of ordinary TV.
So what would a TV look like, that has 16 times higher resolution than HDTV???Â
NHK in Japan is not only working on it, it’s been showing it off. Ultra High Definition has been on display at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam. UHDTV has a screen resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels. Forget about LCD or plasma screens to handle it - projectors are the only way. The audio is extraordinary too - a surround system that requires at least 24 speakers.
Don’t be holding your breath for this technology to reach your living room. NHK says it’ll be 25 years or more, if ever. This takes way too much bandwidth to broadcast. But it may be a technology for movie theaters, museums or stadiums, maybe in the next 10 years.
