We got a sneak peak - complete with price - at the new Microsoft Zune media player, courtesy of a web surfer who just happened to run across it at walmart.com.  That info was forwarded, along with the above screenshot, to Engadget. 

Must have been a mistake on Wal-Mart’s part, because that item, along with the listed $284 price, have both since been removed from Wal-Mart’s website.  Now there’s just a page that says “Coming Soon:  Zune“.  It’s got plenty of specs, and pix of three color choices:  Black, brown and white.

Is this a signal, that Microsoft sees the Wal-Mart shopper as a key target for its would-be iPod killer?  In any case, we still don’t know exactly when we’ll be able to buy one, or what the final Wal-Mart price might be.
