Toshiba Joins Apple & Dell In Laptop Battery Recall Parade

If it’s Tuesday, it must be Toshiba’s turn to order a recall of laptop batteries. Toshiba is recalling 340,000 laptop batteries, manufactured by Sony.
However, Toshiba says there is no fire danger involved with these batteries, as there was in the case of recalls by Apple and Dell.
The defect in this case is corrosion - and it causes the batteries to suddenly lose all power. The corrosion is apparently caused by an ingredient in some insulating paper.
Ten different Toshiba Dynabook and Dynabook Satellite models are apparently affected by this exchange offer; about 100,000 were reportedly sold in the United States.
And yes - batteries for other notebook manufacturers contained the same insulating paper, and may be subject to the same problem.
Toshiba promises to offer information on its website to help you figure out if your notebook is affected.
